Location: North Saanich

Our client is seeking a skilled and experienced Aircraft Painter to join their manufacturing team in Sidney, BC. This role is crucial in ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety in aircraft finishing. The ideal candidate will have expertise in surface preparation, painting, and coating processes, with a strong understanding of industry specifications and materials, including aluminum alloys and composites.

Training on morning shift for a few weeks Monday to Thursday (6:00 AM – 4:30 PM) before transitioning to evening shift.
Regular shift:
Monday to Thursday, 4:30 PM – 3:00 AM.
Additional $1.75 premium for night shifts.
Pay range: $27 – $43/hr (varies based on experience and certifications).

Responsibilities

• Capable of meeting all customer quality requirements and industry standards.

• Monitor stock of commonly used items to maintain adequate levels.

• Assist in the training, direction, and supervision of junior employees.

• Work efficiently, safely, and with minimal supervision while being aware of health and safety hazards.

• Estimate and plan work to be completed on time and within budget.

• Skilled in paint stripping, corrosion removal, cleaning, and preparation for coatings.

• Prime and topcoat according to specifications and customer requirements, including large and small surfaces.

• Maintain a clean work area and report safety concerns to the Supervisor.

• Support the assigned Charge Hand and perform any other duties as assigned.

• Prepare and paint parts and surfaces according to job specifications.

• Ensure high-quality finishes while meeting production deadlines.

• Follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE.

• Inspect painted parts for quality and make adjustments as needed.

• Assist in the setup of equipment and tools for painting operations.

• Collaborate with the production team to ensure smooth workflow.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of professional painting experience (autobody, aircraft, or boat painting).

• Preferred:
Red Seal, Journeyman, international trade certification, or other recognized painting ticket.

• Experience working in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment.

• Ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality standards.

• Comfortable working with chemicals and following safety guidelines.

• Ability to lift and handle heavy materials as required (up to 40 lbs).

• Previous experience working night shifts is a plus.

• Must be easygoing, personable, and adaptable to a laid-back team environment.

• Excellent verbal communication skills.

• Ability to read and comprehend complex drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.

• Strong planning and organizational skills.

• Canadian provincial or inter-provincial aircraft and/or automotive painter certification (e.g., CCAA – Aviation Painter, ITAC) or equivalent from another country is considered an asset.

• Experience in an industrial facility with a focus on safety.

• Work performed in noisy and often warm production areas, handling chemicals—full PPE required at all times.

• Shift work required based on shift bid, seniority, and company needs.
