Role Description

Discover Parks Ambassadors work in provincial parks across BC to create amazing experiences that inspire, educate, and empower people to appreciate, enjoy, and care for British Columbia's parks and protected places. We areseekingenergetic, motivated individuals with a deep respect for the natural environment to deliver educational experiences and support the day-to-day operation of the Goldstream Nature Housein Goldstream Provincial  Park.

What does a typical day look like?

Your days will vary throughout the work term and include running educational programs in Goldstream Park including school and public programs focused on the salmon run, engaging visitors inside the Nature House, and supporting the retail and exhibit spaces. Daily tasks can include program delivery, program planning, greeting visitors,operatingthe gift shop, restocking merchandise, tidying exhibits, cleaning bathrooms, and collecting program metrics.

You will always be interacting with visitors—sharing insight about Goldstream’s biodiversity, guiding them through exhibits, and inspiring environmental awareness.

Responsibilities Interact and Engage with Park Visitors
  • Educate visitors on how to enjoy parks responsibly and promote programs through information booths and roving around the park
  • Run activities and games for children and families inparks, including the existing Jerry’s Rangers program
  • Present daytime family-friendly interpretive programs in parks, including Guided Nature Walks
  • Deliver engaging school group programs focused on the salmon run. This includes a salmon dissection
  • Promote iNaturalistand other community science initiatives
Operate & Maintain the Goldstream Nature House & Gift Shop
  • Greet visitors andinitiatefriendly conversations inside the Nature House
  • Provide guidance on exhibits and highlight key features (wildlife, ecology, salmon life cycle, etc.)
  • Learn andoperatethe POS system for merchandiseanddonations
  • Ensureaccuratecash handling, opening/closing duties, and basic inventory tracking
  • Restock merchandise proactively and keep displays tidy, organized, and accessible
  • Keep exhibits and visitor areas clean and functional
  • Ensure washroom and building cleanliness as part of daily operations
Program and Team Responsibilities
  • Researchparkflora, fauna, and local ecology to support program delivery
  • Develop and deliver new programswhenrequired
  • Monitor and report daily interaction statistics
  • Joinvirtualweekly check-inswith the Discover Parks Ambassador team
  • Administrative taskssuch as printing,purchasing supplies,expense claims,timesheets,email & Slack correspondence,and equipment organization
  • Support the marketing team by creating social media content to help with program promotion
  • Collect iNaturalist observations with a mobile device
  • Contribute to safe work environment
