Occupational Health & Safety Associate

The District of Oak Bay is a picturesque seaside community located within the Greater Victoria Region, with a population of over 18,000 residents. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Health & Safety Associate to support health and safety initiatives across our municipal workforce.

Position Compensation: $40.16–$41.92 per hour ($35.23–$36.77 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits). Term:
Up to 8 months with possible extension.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver and continuously improve the District’s occupational health and safety programs.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, safety audits, and incident investigations.
  • Assist with mandatory self‑inspections, safety self‑audit and risk assessment processes.
  • Coordinate safety training and regulatory compliance initiatives.
  • Support health and safety committee operations.
  • Assist with COR certification activities and liaison with Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committees.

Qualifications:

  • Recent graduate or student nearing completion of an occupational health and safety program with at least one year of post‑secondary OHS education.
  • Strong interest in workplace health and safety and an ability to build positive relationships with employees at all levels.
  • Self‑motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Commitment to promoting safe and healthy workplaces within a municipal environment.
  • Mandated minimum wage or higher as per pay grade.
