The salary range for this position is:

  • Recruitment range: $73,258 to $80,766. Starting salary is determined in accordance with the PEA Collective Agreement.
  • Performance range:
    Up to $95,260.
    Progression beyond the recruitment range is available through annual performance increases, in accordance with the PEA Collective Agreement.
Job Summary

Mandate:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Research Grants (ADRG), the Research Grants Coordinator (RGC) is responsible for day-to-day coordination, efficient processing and approval of external and internal research grant applications. The RGC works as part of a grant support network to support faculty to apply for research grants, in compliance with both UVic and funding agency policies and procedures and provides guidance on funder terms and conditions.

The RGC delivers training to researchers and other members of the grant support network on internal and external systems and portals associated with grant submission, and checks for risk to the institution associated with research grant applications prior to requesting institutional approval for submission. The RGC works closely with researchers, the campus-wide Faculty Grants Officers (FGO) network, the Research Grant Officers (RGOs) in the Office of Research Services (ORS), and other units supporting research across campus (e.g. Research security, Contracts, Partnerships).

The RGC maintains positive working relationships with a multitude of internal and external partners. The RGC is also the Research Administration Information System (RAIS) Product Owner for the pre-award module.

Objectives
  • Coordinates and processes review, institutional approval and timely submission of research applications to external funding agencies.
  • Functions as a key point of contact for researchers, providing training and advice on internal and external research funding programs and policies within the assigned portfolio.
  • Contributes to the effectiveness and continuity of the Research Grants Network through collaboration, knowledge sharing, training and informal mentorship.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of recurring and emerging funding opportunities within an assigned funding agency portfolio.
  • Maintains expert knowledge, develops and maintains process documentation, forms and reference materials for use in training and for website.
Job Requirements

This position requires a master’s degree in a related field and 2 years of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Experience working in a research administration environment and/or in research facilitation and grant writing is considered an asset.
