Winter Support Worker at EWR Shelter

Join The Salvation Army as a Winter Support Worker during Extreme Weather Response season. This role is crucial for providing client-centered support at the Victoria ARC shelter from October to April.

The position involves facilitating safe and supportive shelter services for individuals affected by extreme weather conditions. You will assist in meal servings, monitor safety protocols, and help clients engage with outreach programs. The need for flexibility is essential, as shifts may be scheduled on short notice, lasting 12 hours overnight.

Key Responsibilities:

• Register clients and prepare the shelter area

• Serve warm meals and maintain cleanliness

• Respond to safety concerns and emergencies

• Engage with clients positively to reduce tensions

• Clean common areas and assist with light janitorial tasks

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent desired

• Active Occupational First Aid Certificate

• Experience with trauma-informed care and conflict resolution

• Ability to handle stress and keep calm

• Background check satisfactory to The Salvation Army required
