Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Building Maintenance
The Utility Crew Leader directs and participates in the work activities of personnel performing equipment operations, technical skills, and manual labor, while controlling those tasks required to perform construction, maintenance, and repair of the City’s water and/or wastewater system. Communicates both orally and in writing with various departments, other utilities, contractors, and citizens concerning job-related tasks and assignments.
Work is performed in a standard office environment and throughout the city at utility treatment facilities and work sites. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, potentially dangerous tools, equipment, and machinery, noxious fumes and odors, electrical and traffic hazards, and inclement weather conditions. May be required to work in confined spaces, climb in and out of trenches, and lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Knowledge,Abilities and Skills:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent AND five (5) years of progressively responsible public works maintenance and construction experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, and TCEQ regulations.
- Must possess a Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement.
- Must possess a Class II Wastewater Collection license or higher.
- Must possess a Class C Water Distribution license or higher.
- Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, and regulations, including safety policies and project management.
- Experience in supervision, leadership, and inventory management.
- Proficiency in records maintenance, report preparation, and filing systems.
- Skilled in utility system installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, schematics, and manuals.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Competence in operating tools, equipment, and machinery.
- Ability to enforce safety protocols and meet deadlines effectively.
