Under general supervision, the Surface Water Treatment Plant Maintenance Technician performs highly skilled maintenance and repair work on pumps, motors and other water production and treatment equipment.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Meets with supervisors to obtain daily tasks and work orders.
- Performs preventative maintenance on water and chemical pumps; conducts inspections to identify repair or maintenance needs.
- Test operations and troubleshoots pump issues.
- Cleans algae and other debris from basins.
- Maintains inventory of parts needed to complete maintenance and repairs.
- Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Work is performed at treatment facilities and various locations throughout the City and requires exposure to standing water, hazardous chemicals, electrical hazards, and potentially dangerous tools and equipment. May be required to climb.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent AND two (2) years of mechanical maintenance related work; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Must possess a valid Class A Commercial driver’s license within one (1) year of employment.
- Must possess a Class D Water Operator license within six (6) months of employment.
- A valid State driver’s license is required.
- Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
- Records maintenance and retention practices and procedures.
- Water and chemical pump operations.
- Troubleshooting methods.
- Work safety policies, procedures, and practices.
- Chemical handling and storage procedures.
- Methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in the electrical, instrumentation and mechanical trades.
- Following safe work practice including the proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Reading and accurately interpreting electrical and mechanical schematics, blueprints, and equipment service manuals.
- Organizing work and setting priorities to meet deadlines.
- Using a variety of tools and equipment.
- Maintaining accurate records.
- Preparing clear and concise reports.
- Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
