Systems Administrator, IT Support
Under limited supervision, provides advanced support for specialized hardware and software assigned by the Network Engineer. Responsibilities include securing and maintaining the City’s electronic data and ensuring reliable and secure access to data and the City’s network infrastructure via personal computers and mobile devices. Performs related duties, as required.

Responsibilities- Set up, configure, and fine-tune applications, system monitoring, and notifications using tools leveraged by the City.
- Administer and support VMWare products.
- Transition virtual machines to the Microsoft Azure Cloud Platform or other third-party cloud solutions.
- Apply patches and firmware updates to virtual machines, servers, and storage devices in the data center.
- Monitor application processes to ensure high availability and accuracy.
- Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying the completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
- Maintain and optimize the Cloud solution leveraged by the City.
- Configure, install, and troubleshoot complex Windows Server environments, including virtualization technology such as VMware and Failover Clustering.
- Maintain remote services.
- Participate in after-hours standard maintenance of Windows operating systems.
- Maintain Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft 365.
- Evaluate and recommend new automated technologies and business process improvements.
- Provide work direction and mentoring to technical staff as necessary.
- Assume supervisory duties for subordinate staff and consultants as assigned.
- Participate in developing and managing budgets for assigned areas of responsibility.
- Oversee and participate in project management for new system implementations and enhancements to existing systems and services.
- Utilize project management techniques and tools adopted by the City to effectively manage system implementations and upgrades.
- Maintain confidentiality of work-related issues and City information.
- Safely operate City vehicles and equipment.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or a closely related field AND a minimum of two years of professional server administration experience.
- Must possess a valid California Class “C” driver’s license upon hire and maintain it throughout the length of employment with the City of Victorville.
- Public Cloud services such as Azure, AWS, and GCP.
- Microsoft Windows Admin Center (WAC).
- High availability designs for all equipment.

- Procedures, principles, and practices for installing, configuring, upgrading, operating, and troubleshooting computer hardware, software, and peripherals, including printers.
- Diverse communication technologies and standards for network operations, including network operating systems, security, cabling, and inter-networking principles with local and wide area networks and related systems and hardware.
- Microsoft desktop and server operating systems, mobile operating systems, and related networking environments.
- Server and desktop virtualization, Storage Area Networks, disaster recovery, and IT security.
- Various business applications, including Microsoft product suites, Adobe products, and software required to accomplish the essential functions listed.
