Job Description

Clark Nexsen, a JMT Company, seeks a Civil Engineer who will assist in various aspects of the civil engineering portion of a project under the supervision of a licensed Civil Engineer. The role involves designing land development projects and working in stand‑alone and multi‑discipline design teams supervised by senior engineers and project managers on projects of all sizes.

General Responsibilities
  • Perform various aspects of civil design as directed by a Senior Civil Engineer, including conceptual studies, design analyses, calculations, site design for buildings or subdivisions, infrastructure projects, and design related to business development activities such as RFP responses.
  • Prepare programming documents, schematic documents, design development documents, and construction documents as directed.
  • Coordinate and communicate with design team members to ensure civil design details integrate properly with work from other disciplines.
  • Prepare marketing and presentation materials as directed.
  • Perform civil services associated with the bidding process, including preparing addenda and amendments, and opening and tabulating bids.
  • Perform civil services associated with the construction phase, including field visits, answering RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings.
  • Comply with quality control policies and procedures.
  • Learn and implement department and company standards.
  • Develop analysis and design skills.
  • Participate in team meetings and coordinate efforts with other team members.
  • Work with, respond to, and take direction from Senior Engineers, Project Managers, and Design Managers.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, interior designers, and landscape architects.
Project Responsibilities
  • Perform tasks as directed by senior staff.
  • Maintain document organization and clarity.
  • Coordinate discipline drawings.
  • Complete sections and details to a schematic‑level of completion by the Engineer.
  • Create schematic‑level site layout and grading plans for low‑to‑moderate complexity projects.
  • Create schematic‑level roadway layout and grading plans.
  • Develop manual calculations and analytical models for civil analysis and design.
  • Participate in developing a site design and utilities model in Civil 3D where required.
  • Assist with preparing LEED templates where LEED certification is required.
  • Adhere to project budget and schedule.

Required Experience
  • Graduate of an ABET‑accredited 4‑, 5‑, or 6‑year engineering program in one of the following disciplines:
    • Civil Engineering
    • Civil and Environmental Engineering
    • Civil, Environmental, and Infrastructure Engineering
    • Civil Engineering Technology
  • Post‑graduate degree in Civil Engineering or a related field may receive additional consideration.
  • Completed or in a position to complete the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam and all other state requirements for certification as an EIT is preferred.
  • 2‑4 years of post‑graduation civil engineering experience, including site, roadway, subdivision, or utilities design; manual calculation and analytical modeling; construction document preparation; coordination with other design team members; and responding to construction phase queries and submittals.
  • Pursuing Professional Engineer licensure (PE) within 36 months of hire.
  • Understanding of sustainable design principles and practices; pursuing LEED AP accreditation is desirable.
  • Additional certifications such as CDT, CCS, or CCCA are encouraged.
  • Active membership in NSPE, ASCE, or related professional organizations is desirable.
  • Proficiency with company software programs for word processing, e‑mail, and information management.
