Overview

American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter With Security Clearance - FUTURE NEED. This is a part-time, as-needed position with hybrid remote/in-person work in the Washington, DC area, primarily Vienna, VA. Occasional travel for conferences and customer site meetings may be required. Candidates must be remotely available with reliable internet service and reside in the Washington, D.C./Virginia metropolitan area; they must also be within a 30-minute commute to the Vienna HQ for scheduled or last-minute in-person meetings.

The core work is performed at approved remote locations in Washington, DC/No

VA areas unless otherwise authorized. This is a future need and not a current vacancy.

• Provide ASL interpretation to support software developers and engineers in meeting mission requirements.
• Assist with in-house translations and facilitate communication among staff and customers, including secure meetings.
• Coordinate and translate for meetings as needed, including both virtual and in-person sessions.

• Must be a US citizen.
• Must hold an active U.S. government security clearance at the Secret level or higher.
• Must hold a BS degree in ASL, Communication, Psycholinguistics, Linguistics, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Must have at least 1 year of professional ASL interpreting experience.
• Desirable: experience with technical translations (e.g., software developers, technical engineers, Math/Statistics).
• Must hold a certification from a recognized organization (ASL, RID, NIC, NAD, BEI, etc.).
• Must be able to provide accurate ASL–spoken English interpretation in a timely manner.
• Must have reliable transportation to Vienna, VA for in-person or secure-environment meetings when required.
• Must stay current on best practices in interpreting services and resources.
• Must have basic computer skills and proficiency with MS Teams for virtual meetings.

• Experience in a Business/Government setting with complex technical terminology.
• Knowledge of programming languages and software developer terminology.
• Experience translating for software developers; RID Certified interpreter.
• Experience educating staff on how to request interpretation services; ability to advise leadership on adequate services for deaf and hard-of-hearing.

The hourly pay range for this position is $38.46 – $60.10.
