Network Specialist
The Network Specialist responds to a multitude of DoD requests in a fast-paced, mission-critical, rapidly evolving DoD Command environment. Diagnose and resolve Network-based issues across all classifications of networked systems supporting the Joint Communications Support Element (JCSE) at McDill AFB, FL. Work with an integrated contract/Government team of IT professionals, designing, implementing, and maintaining computer networks, ensuring connectivity, security, and optimal performance.
This includes handling tasks like installing and configuring network hardware and software, troubleshooting issues such as outages, and monitoring network performance, and providing Tier 2 support to resolve networking and computing device issues.
- Install, configure, and maintain computer networks including VPNs, routers, and other network devices.
- Create firewalls and update virus protection software and data security systems to keep data and communications protected.
- Monitor computer systems to improve network performance for all systems.
- Monitor network traffic and performance; troubleshoot and resolve networking issues, and communicate actions to other employees and management.
- Implement disaster recovery procedures.
- Work with cloud-based network services to integrate into existing network architectures.
- Maintain current knowledge and understanding of security and networking best practices to offer the best solutions and protection to company systems.
- Develop and implement network security policies.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
- Active TOP SECRET Clearance with the ability to be SCI eligible.
- Security+ CE certification, and one or more of CCNA, CCNP, Azure Network Specialist Associate, Network+ current and active.
- 3 years of related networking experience with network security, firewalls, and security protocols in a DoD environment.
- Foundation knowledge in networking fundamentals including LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, and routing and switching.
- Demonstrated proficiency in troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical thinking.
