Steer Bridge Strategies is seeking skilled and motivated Data Engineers to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Modern Claims Staffing Plan. This initiative focuses on modernizing and streamlining claims processing systems to improve service delivery to our nation’s veterans.

As a Data Engineer on this program, you will play a key role in enhancing data workflows and optimizing system performance within the VA’s existing databases and systems of record. Your responsibilities will include improving data entry, management, and extraction processes to ensure seamless integration with analytical and decision-support tools.

• Working with partners to identify fields, data linkage and integration, performing data quality checks, analysis, presenting data and documenting the process.
• Review and understand large sets of data while being able to highlight relevant trends and patterns.
• Develop and maintain ETL processes to support structured claims and benefits data transformation.
• Use tools like dbt, Informatica, Azure Data Factory, and Databricks for data modeling, transformation, and workflow automation.
• Manage and query large datasets using SQL, and write scripts in Python or JavaScript for data parsing and process automation.
• Conduct data quality checks, linkage, and integration from multiple sources.
• Support real-time and batch processing through APIs, schedulers, and cloud services (e.g., AWS S3, Azure Blob).
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, to deliver high-quality analytics and reports.
• Maintain clear technical documentation of all pipelines, processes, and data products.
• Contribute to cloud-native data architecture, performance tuning, and secure data governance practices.

• Experience with modern data stack tools (e.g., ETL frameworks, dbt, Informatica).
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, and experience with cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Knowledge of data modeling, data warehousing (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift), and pipeline orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Spark).
• Understanding of data governance, compliance, and security protocols in regulated environments.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and team collaboration skills.

$82,000 - $92,000 a year

A salary commensurate with background and experience will be offered.
