Job Title: Dev Ops Engineer (SR)
Clearance Required: Public Trust

Description

Alpha Omega is seeking a qualified Dev Ops Engineer to support the Buckeye contract at USDA’s FPAC environment. The role focuses on automated continuous deployment of application code and the operational and security monitoring and care of the infrastructure and software platforms. The Engineer will work with AWS‑based CI/CD tools, supporting the FPAC community’s research efforts while demonstrating strong analytical and collaboration skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a technical authority for Dev Ops and Dev Sec Ops  solutions across the FPAC environment
  • Design and architect secure, scalable CI/CD and infrastructure platforms where standards may not yet exist
  • Write, debug, and deploy Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using tools such as Puppet or Terraform
  • Build and manage CI/CD pipeline configurations for provisioning and deployment of both large and small‑scale systems
  • Own architectural decisions, technical documentation, and implementation guidance
  • Review and approve technical work products to ensure quality, security, and compliance
  • Lead the design and implementation of enterprise‑grade CI/CD pipelines with integrated security controls
  • Architect and maintain IaC using Terraform and Puppet
  • Design and operate containerized platforms using Docker and Kubernetes (EKS)
  • Integrate and support mission‑critical systems in cloud environments
  • Embed security automation (scanning, policy enforcement, secrets management) directly into pipelines
  • Collaborate with team to develop, stand‑up, and support cloud platforms using various languages and cloud‑native technologies
  • Apply FISMA and FedRAMP requirements to cloud architectures, pipelines, and operational processes
  • Lead vulnerability mitigation, compliance alignment, and secure automation strategies
  • Serve as escalation point for production incidents, security events, and high‑risk technical issues
  • Partner with security and governance teams to ensure continuous compliance and audit readiness
  • Proficiency with AWS services such as S3, EKS, Dynamo

    DB, Lambda, API Gateway, EC2, Elastic Search, X‑Ray, WAF, Aurora, Work Spaces, etc.
  • Strong familiarity with modern Dev Ops principles, practices, methods, and tools
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects and provide updates to management
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills with customers, peers, and management
  • Experience with IaC (Terraform, Puppet, Ansible) and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience supporting FISMA‑regulated or FedRAMP‑authorized environments
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a Master’s Degree
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 6+ years of overall experience
  • Minimum 6 years of specific experience in field
  • 6+ years developing and engineering enterprise cloud services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) using AWS, GCP, and Azure, including networking, computing, storage, database, identity management, monitoring, and more
  • Excellent written, verbal, and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing Dev Sec Ops  architecture for federal or regulated environments
  • Strong background in incident response, root cause analysis, and risk mitigation
  • Experience with microservices and event‑driven architecture
  • Proficiency in scripting or programming languages such as Python, Bash, Go, or YAML
  • AWS Certified Dev Ops Engineer – Professional or AWS Solutions Architect – Professional
  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)
  • CISSP, CCSP, or equivalent senior cybersecurity certification
  • ITIL Foundation (v3 or v4)
  • Architectural ownership over task execution
  • Security and compliance accountability (FISMA/FedRAMP)
  • Experience with AWS cloud technologies including VPCs, S3, RDS, ELB, Route
    53, SQS, Auto Scaling, Direct Connect, and more
  • Extensive experience building secure and reliable services on FedRAMP‑compliant cloud platforms
  • Proficiency with Perl, Python, YAML, BASH, Go, etc.
Preferred Certifications
  • CISSP, CCSP, or equivalent senior cybersecurity certification
