Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Board‑Certified or Residency‑Trained Veterinary Medical Oncologist to join our team at Hope Advanced Veterinary Center, a 24‑hour specialty and emergency practice in Vienna, VA. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing high‑quality veterinary care and possess excellent communication skills to build lasting relationships with clients. You will work alongside a team of experienced veterinarians, technicians, and support staff and will work closely with the Hospital Manager and Regional Manager.

Hope Advanced Veterinary Center is a specialty practice offering Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Oncology, Surgery, Rehabilitation and Cardiology with access to radiology support. We provide advanced diagnostics including a 16‑slice CT, ultrasound, endoscopy and fluoroscopy. We also help train and support an internal medicine intern yearly, as well as two general rotating interns.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups
  • Communicate and educate clients effectively
  • Maintain accurate medical records
  • Prescribe medications and follow controlled‑substance protocols
  • Promote teamwork and staff efficiency
  • Work with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations
  • Evaluate and monitor protocols for daily hospital operations, from intake to discharge
  • Monitor cases and attend daily rounds when possible to uphold high standards
  • Participate in practice‑management updates and training at all levels
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications (Required)
  • DVM or VMD from an accredited college or university
  • One‑year rotational internship in small animal medicine, surgery, or emergency or a university or large referral practice
  • Completed a 3‑year AVMA‑approved residency program
  • Current State veterinary license
  • DEA registration obtained and maintained
  • Strong diagnostic and clinical skills
  • Ability to work in a team‑oriented environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to compassionate, high‑quality veterinary care
  • Client communication skills: skillful elicitation of information, rapport building, and explanation of care plans
  • Confidence and reassurance when dealing with pets experiencing severe stress, illness or pain
  • Physical ability to perform tasks such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; lift up to 50 lbs
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
  • Board certification
  • 2‑5 years of experience post‑residency
  • Clinical expertise in cardiology, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological, and other key examinations, with ability to diagnose and prescribe appropriate treatment
  • Problem‑solving ability for high‑quality veterinary hospital management challenges
  • Professionalism and ability to provide and receive constructive feedback
  • Business acumen: understanding of hospital management and finances
  • Ethics: knowledge of guiding principles
  • Commitment to continuing education and facilitation of learning for others

Pay Range

$180,000 – $250,000 USD
