DescriptionThe Estimator I is responsible for preparing work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents. They identify labor, material, and time requirements, and compute costs by analyzing these factors.
Job Responsibilities (list not exhaustive)- Resolve all pricing options and target the appropriate price for the project.
- Identify areas for training with estimators and interns.
- Gather information from local government and private entities that may affect the project (e.g., permits, hearings).
- Assist in leading addendum log and documents from customers/clients.
- Complete quantity takeoffs and summaries of materials.
- Solicit trade partners, obtain bid estimates, and time projections for preparing vendor proposal comparisons and estimate summary sheets.
- Provide assistance with data input into estimating software program(s).
- Build project estimates.
- Prepare, organize, and coordinate Request for Proposal documents.
- Prepare and coordinate schedules, utilizing schedule information to estimate General Contractor’s and other scheduled items.
- Participate in plan and estimate review meetings, other project review meetings, and site investigations, as needed.
- Solicit new bidders when needed and obtain necessary documents for inclusion in future projects.
- Capture historical cost data and perform archive filing.
- Assist in providing details for order entry, drafting, production and layout of orders received.
- Correspond with sales reps to obtain missing info, recommend changes or substitutions to improve cost, delivery, or product.
- Interpret customer requirements and prepare and revise quotations based upon takeoffs, emails, and specifications.
- Interact with sales reps and internal personnel to provide accurate bidding.
- Work from emails, takeoffs, drawings, bid forms, verbal and written requests to prepare quotes.
- Report directly to the department supervisor.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
- Provide technical product support to designers and customers as related to the quotes.
- Proficient with strong mathematical and computer skills; proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
- Ability to break down construction operations into a logical sequence of activities.
- Team orientation and ability to work in a collaborative environment.
- Professional communication of the basis for individual work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to meet deadlines and commit necessary time.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Willingness to travel as needed.

- Attention to detail and ability to recognize discrepancies.
- High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field preferred.
- Minimum 1 to 2 years of estimating experience preferred.
- Required to stand, walk, and sit; talk or hear in person and by telephone.
- Use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms.
- Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 25 pounds.
