Summary

The Drafting Supervisor is a critical technical resource to the Engineering and Drafting Department. The Drafting Supervisor shall be the single point of control for a group of Checkers and Drafters within the drafting department. The Drafting Supervisor shall also take responsibility to (a) teach technical training and (b) answer periodic technical inquiries from the Drafters and Checkers.

Core Functions
  • Create and maintain project schedules for the jobs assigned to his/her team. He/she is directly responsible for the timeliness of the projects assigned to the team.
  • Monitor the quality of drafting and checking for the jobs assigned to his/her team.
  • Training:
    Drafting Supervisor will perform in a training capacity for the drafting department. On a day-to-day basis, he/she is a resource for the drafters and checkers on his/her team when they have a problem they do not know how to solve on their own.
  • Coordinate drawing requirements and timelines within the drafting department and with other departments. This includes addressing field issues as required.
  • Employee Development:
    Drafting Supervisor will serve as the direct report for the drafters and checkers on his/her team. This will include employee reviews and disciplinary actions.
  • Other Assistance:
    Assist the VP of Engineering in ad hoc requirements as necessary to advance the company's and Drafting Department's overall objectives.
  • Assist Construction Lead Project Managers, Pre-Con Project Managers, and Construction Project Managers on technical issues as necessary
  • Input and maintain drafting aspects of ACC construction management tool.

Key Measures of Success
  • Demonstrates detailed knowledge of the company’s products and services.
  • High repeat order rate / High net promoter score.
  • Timeliness and quality of jobs completed by his/her team
  • Proactive requesting and follow up on questions from Drafters or Checkers (24 hours send out; 48 hours check back)
  • Knowledge of heavy structural and light gauge steel building designs, means, and methods.
  • Excellent command of drawing review tools and techniques.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills
  • Ability to investigate problems or potential problems to avoid recurrence.
  • Proficient in Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Microsoft Projects, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to communicate at numerous levels internal and external to the company.
  • Excellence in oral and written communication in English.
  • Works well with a team.

Education & Experience

Minimum

Required:

  • Associate’s Degree or Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience may be accepted in lieu of education or formal certifications.
  • Minimum of (5) years of experience as a Drafter and/or Checker
Physical Demands & Work Environment

Work is performed in an office environment and routinely utilizes standard office equipment, including keyboards, computers, etc., and requires close visual insight to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer, and extensive readingto perform the core functions listed in this job description. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies as well as communicate verbally.

Work is primarily sedentary.

Travel
  • Minimal travel may be required.
