Role summary:
The Family Service Coordinator (FSC) manages a caseload of families participating in the Head Start and/or Early Head Start program, providing ongoing support in partnership with families. The FSC helps families build skills for self-sufficiency, parenting, and advocacy to support children’s readiness for school and life. The FSC assists families in identifying and reaching their goals and documents all family development services to reflect needs, strengths and growth.
The FSC also supports ERSEA requirements and serves as a frontline representative of Save the Children, upholding the agency values.
- Engage families as full partners in assessing their needs and strengths, and prioritize their needs and interests in alignment with program goals.
- In coordination with the Manager of PFCE, ensure vacancies are filled within 30 days, determine eligibility, maintain enrollment with 10% of funded enrollment for children with special needs, and sustain ongoing recruitment and enrollment.
- Help each family develop a Family Partnership Agreement to support goal development.
- Conduct regular home visits to build competencies in attachment and child development, advocacy, transitions, and parenting.
- Make and follow up on referrals related to Family Partnership Agreement goals, strengths/needs, children with special needs, family health, job and education services, and other wellness services.
- Strengthen community collaborations by staying informed on local resources and sharing information with families; participate in interagency meetings and community events.
- Collaborate with teachers and specialists to plan for home visits and coordinate shared information with families.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary teams and maintain accurate, timely family records (electronic and hard copy).
- Engage in opportunities for continuous professional development.
- Associate’s degree in family and child development, early childhood development, social work or adult learning; or within eighteen months of hire, at least a credential or certification in social work, human services, family services, counseling or related field.
- Professional proficiency in MS Office suite.
- Professional proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Knowledge of administration, budgeting, purchasing systems management, and public relations skills.
- Experience developing stable, supportive relationships with young children.
- Ability to exercise professional judgment and evaluation before decisions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, children, parents and outside agencies.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels.
- Strong problem solving and time management skills.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish or English) preferred.
- Physical requirements:
medium to heavy physical work; ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 5-10 pounds constantly; include activities such as sitting, crawling, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting; keyboarding and computer use as needed. - Clear pre-employment background checks and health requirements; may require state-specific checks (e.g., child abuse registry).
- Must operate a motor vehicle to fulfill essential job functions; valid driver’s license required.
- Head Start/Early Head Start parents who are qualified may receive preference for vacancies.
The base pay for this position starts at $16.02/hour. Actual base salary may vary based on experience, credentials, internal pay, and other role-specific qualifications.
