The RoleThe Early Head Start Teacher develops and implements individual and group educational plans for infants and toddlers, promoting social‑emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with a co‑Teacher to develop and implement individualized and group lesson plans that promote all developmental areas.
- Guide and facilitate daily classroom activities and field trips.
- Select and set up equipment and materials, ensuring a safe, developmentally appropriate environment.
- Practice responsive caregiving, integrating routines into a flexible schedule of learning experiences.
- Plan and conduct conferences (minimum two) and home visits (minimum two) to keep parents informed of their child’s progress.
- Maintain accurate records on paper and in designated online systems, ensuring confidentiality.
- Plan, conduct, and document observations, assessments, and screenings, maintaining a comprehensive portfolio for each child.
- Support Program Aides and Volunteers in planning and executing classroom activities.
- Implement active supervision techniques to ensure no child is left unsupervised.
- Use the playground as an extension of the classroom, ensuring safety.
- Assist children during mealtime, teaching social and self‑help skills.
- Attend to children’s physical needs, aiding with health and personal habits.
- Engage parents in education through classroom involvement and home activities.
- Maintain inventory of classroom equipment and supplies annually.
- Collaborate with the Manager of Education & Inclusion on professional development plans.
- Keep the classroom clean and organized.
- Document matching‑in‑kind activities, goods, and services.
- Be prepared to stay until all children are picked up by parents/guardians.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Associate degree in child development, early childhood education, or related field with coursework equivalent to a major in early childhood education.
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, interpersonal, organizational, problem‑solving, and time‑management skills.
- Ability to follow directions, take initiative, and maintain confidentiality.
- Knowledge of the Head Start/Early Head Start program.
- Proven ability to relate sensitively to children.
- Must complete professional development training, including basic first aid and pediatric CPR certification as required.
- Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish or other languages used by children and families).
- For North Carolina applicants, holding a Birth‑Kindergarten (B‑K) Licensure is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Medium to heavy physical work, lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally, plus repetitive actions and computer use.
Clear pre‑employment background check requirements. Must pass all state and local health requirements before employment.
Must be able to operate a motor vehicle, maintain a valid driver’s license, and comply with Save the Children policies.
Current and former Head Start/Early Head Start parents receive preference for qualified positions.
