Teacher Assistant

Overview

The Teacher Assistant supports the classroom Teacher in implementing the children’s services curriculum and upholding KCARC’s mission to provide dignified and respectful care for individuals and families with special needs.

• Assist in maintaining a developmentally appropriate, language-rich classroom environment.
• Support food program duties: sanitize tables, serve and feed children, model table manners, tidy space, and provide drinks.
• Maintain personal hygiene support: wash hands/face, diaper/potty train, wipe/blow nose, and dress as needed.
• Provide close supervision of all children and manage attendance clipboard.
• Lead and manage the classroom during the Teacher’s absence.
• Complete paperwork, cleaning duties, and other tasks as directed.
• Adhere to all policies, procedures, and work instructions.
• Contribute to quality management goals and serve on committees and staff meetings.
• Frequent lifting of up to 75 pounds independently or with assistance.
• Perform additional duties as necessary.

High School diploma or GED required. Must possess a CDA or begin working toward a CDA after the first year of employment, or an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. Background in developmentally appropriate practices in an early childhood setting is preferred. Must demonstrate insight, sensitivity, flexibility, and a strong desire to work with children.

CPR/First Aid required. Ability to pass state required physical. The position requires frequent alternation between sitting and standing, repetitive motion, lifting, bending, twisting, and turning.

Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and outside weather conditions. Moderate to occasionally loud noise. Personal Protective Equipment such as vinyl or latex gloves occasionally required.
