Overview
Commonwealth Staffing is seeking an Accounting Supervisor for a boutique CPA firm in Virginia Beach, VA. This position is part of the Firm’s Client Accounting and Advisory Services (CAAS) Department and participates in managing and developing interns, associates, staff and seniors within CAAS by delegating and training them to be successful in their careers.
The Accounting Supervisor coordinates with CAAS department staff to ensure client monthly, quarterly and annual accounting work is performed on time, within the appropriate scope, and within budget. This role will seek business development opportunities through new or existing contacts and is building relationships across lines of business to ensure client service excellence through an integrated service approach. This role may require additional work hours during the busy season.
Compensationand Benefits
- $60,000 - $70,000 in base compensation per year, commensurate with experience

- Oversee and perform as necessary tax compliance activities for individuals and businesses, including:
- Ability to perform and review:
Bank Reconciliations, Sales Tax Returns - Reconcile balance sheet accounts and research financial discrepancies by analyzing detailed account information for financial statement preparation for the Monthly/Quarterly Write Up process
- Compile and review advanced work papers utilizing Adobe and manage project workflows within a paperless environment and answer questions for staff as needed
- Coordinate with other staff members to ensure accuracy of posted transactions through A/P, A/R, Fixed Assets and Payroll entries
- Supervise a team of staff as assigned. Be a leader within CAAS Department by facilitating collaboration among CAAS staff as well as coordination with other departments
- Maintain working knowledge of procedures and assist with updates as necessary
- Ability to recognize client needs and facilitate meeting client expectations
- Anticipate problems/issues and keep manager informed of engagement status
- Communicate with clients to request data, participate in client meetings as needed and contribute to a strong client relationship through positive interaction with client personnel
- Research and consult on various projects, manage Ad-hoc projects as necessary
- Ensure corporate accounting policies, procedures, and controls are followed when working with business partners and be able to provide support on special requests
- Responsible for supervising processes or projects as assigned
- Willing to take action on items beyond formal job responsibilities, go over and above
- Cross-sell opportunities among existing clients
- Participate in both Firm and professional continuing education opportunities
- Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data for clients and other Firm staff
- Willing to participate and lead various department-wide initiatives
- Assist with client meetings and participate in effective client communications
- Four year Accounting or Finance degree, or equivalent work experience
- Experience preferred is 7+ years work experience in Accounting/Business related field
- Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued. Prior experience with supervising other staff members desired.
- Acquired or working toward CPA or EA
- Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Knowledge of federal and state tax regulations
- Proficiency in Ultra Tax or other tax software, Quick Books and other accounting software
- Strong computer skills with knowledge and skills in a wide variety of applications, Thomson Reuters software experience a plus
- Good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Research oriented with problem-solving skills
- Superior attention to detail with strong organizational, analytical and planning skills
- Positive attitude and ability to work collaboratively with team in various levels
- Flexible in dealing with change with ability to manage multiple priorities and projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
