Building Maintenance Inspector

We are hiring a Building Inspector I to help ensure City-owned facilities and infrastructure are safe, functional, and well maintained. This position oversees construction and maintenance contracts, inspects buildings and related assets, prepares work orders and cost estimates, reviews plans and specifications, and coordinates with building maintenance trades to support timely, high-quality repairs and ongoing operations.

Duties include:

• Oversee City contracts to ensure ongoing work schedules comply with the completion date and approve the contractor’s request for payment
• Inspect all City-owned buildings, structures, parking lots, sidewalks and curbs, making detailed notes on repair needs; inspect city buildings that are under construction or that 2 are being modified to ensure they can be properly and efficiently maintained by Building Maintenance trades staff; and follow up on warranty responsibilities of contractors by inspecting work and documenting problems then informing the contractor of these problems and what is required of him.
• Prepare work orders for the repair or modification of the building or structure so work can be scheduled and accomplished properly, and present to the supervisor ways and means of making repairs to prevent a future occurrence of the same problem.
• Prepare estimates on material and manpower costs to ensure that the necessary quantities will be funded and on hand.
  • Review plans, drawings, and job specifications to ensure that they are complete, functional, and up to date.
• Provide a coordination function for various building maintenance trades staff to ensure the timely and efficient completion of work.
  • Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge, and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs
