Job Duties
:
Graphic Designer duties include but are not limited to:

• Photography: Photographs city events and members in a positive, creative manner for city, local, state and regional publications; performs all aspects of photographic production from initial concept through final production; operates all types of photographic production equipment including digital cameras, lighting equipment, and photo editing software; manages and maintains the city’s repository of photographic images; maintains photographic supply inventory; maintains an online current and archival repository of digital photos;
  
  maintains a thumbnail catalog of all online digital photos; recruits and trains volunteers to help photograph events; assigns and directs volunteer photographers; coordinates and schedules photo shoots; meets with city and school representatives and recommends the best method and format to achieve desired results. Assumes on-call (ALPHA) status in case of emergency and/or inclement weather to provide photography services as required.

• Graphic Design: Works with the department to provide graphic design and marketing materials for addressing issues and promoting programs, services or events; provides artistic services for internal and external communication materials including brochures, newsletters, displays, presentations, advertisements, logos and other materials; develops and coordinates graphic concepts and conducts research to determine the priority, method and materials to be used; prepares preliminary layouts, conceptual schematic studies and freehand perspectives relating to departmental goals;
  
  uses computer systems, various software applications and other graphic arts media to produce visuals or proofs of the final products in single to full color separations.

• Web page design: Provides graphic design support for the city’s web sites, which can include design of site styles, page layouts, information architecture, navigation schema, online graphics, advertisements, multimedia and related materials; collaborates with web team and internal customers in developing site designs; works directly with programmers to ensure compliance in technical issues; develops custom text and graphic content and adapts existing content to a web-friendly format;
  
  creates graphics, page layouts and design templates for city web sites to enhance and maintain the city’s web presence and online marketing efforts.

• Graphic art or illustration: Prepares graphic illustrations of raw data from sketches, diagrams or oral instructions, by hand drawing or using desktop publishing software; performs additional graphic art and drafting work as required.

  • Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.

  Produce creative materials to promote the City’s programs, services and events using creativity, sound design principles and graphic design skills; effectively establish and maintains working relationships with city departments, City Council, agencies, vendors and suppliers; accurately manages resources; demonstrates flexibility, creativity and a customer focus when making decisions and solving problems; creates high quality print material, photos, or designs within required deadlines;
  
  maintains equipment and assesses when equipment repairs, replacements, or upgrades are necessary or more cost effective; demonstrates proficiency in at least two media occupational areas of graphic design, photography, graphic art, or web page design; directs photographic or design assignments from concept to final production.
