Architect / Sr. Architect
VIA desig is an architecture, site planning, and interior design firm based in Downtown Norfolk since 1991. Our projects range from new construction to the reinvention of existing buildings for school districts, municipalities, housing authorities, nonprofits, and private clients. We’re a small team by design, so everyone takes part in the full life of a project.
As we celebrate 35 years of practice, we’re thinking carefully about what comes next, and that starts with our team. We’re looking for a licensed, experienced architect who’s thinking about the next chapter of their career, not just the next project. Someone as invested in this community as we are, who cares about the impact of their work on the places where they live and practice.
WhatYou'll Do
As a Project Leader, you’ll work directly with VIA’s Principals to define and carry out each project’s vision from schematic design through construction administration. You’ll be the face of the firm for your clients, presenting design solutions and keeping them aligned with client goals. You will:
- Lead internal project teams through design development, construction documents, and project delivery
- Coordinate with consultants and contractors throughout each project phase
- Monitor schedules and budgets across multiple concurrent projects
- Support quality control of drawings and specifications
- Mentor team members and contribute to the refinement of VIA's design standards and processes
- Active architecture license with 6+ years of professional leadership experience
- Proven track record of managing built work and leading both projects and project teams
- Strong understanding of the architectural process and management of consultant teams
- Fluency in current Revit, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and Bluebeam Revu
- Organized, detail-oriented, reliable, and ethical
The target salary range for this position is $99,000–$119,000, depending on experience. VIA aligns compensation with AIA regional standards, factoring in firm size, revenue, and local market data.
Why VIAYou’ll have a direct impact on both our projects and our people, mentoring project teams and helping build a culture of shared learning.
VIA offers 100% employer-paid health insurance, a generous 401(k) match, and paid time off, plus your birthday and holidays of your choice. You'll also receive paid parking or a public transit pass, an annual training stipend, paid professional membership dues, and paid volunteer time off.
