Job DescriptionVirginia Wesleyan University (VWU) is seeking on-site adjunct faculty to teach in our Prison Education Program (PEP) in the Chesapeake region. The areas of expertise include business, English, science, humanities, and language. These are part-time positions teaching on-site courses for associate's and bachelor's degree programs. Preference will be given to candidates with a terminal degree in the content area and demonstrated experience in teaching college-level coursework.
However, candidates with an M.S. or 18 graduate semester hours will also be considered. Interested candidates should send their resume/CV to Dr. Drian Glyde, Dean of the VWU Global Campus, iew of applications is ongoing.
- Prepare syllabi that meet the VWU syllabus guidelines and provide these to students on the first day of class. Syllabi should also be provided to department chairs.
- Use Blackboard, the University Learning Management System, and other related technologies as appropriate for the PEP program.
- Be on time and prepared for class sessions and grade, provide feedback, and return assignments within a reasonable time period.
- Communicate with students during class and facility time.
- Submit mid-term reports, final grades, and C- reports per guidelines provided by the University Registrar.
- Comply with FERPA regulations.
- Coordinate with Campus support services as needed to support students.
- Doctorate or Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in the content area - Data Science, Criminal Justice, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or Sociology
- Strong communication skills
- Teaching experience is preferred
- Experience with online learning management systems is a plus BUT not required for the PEP program as there is no internet access.
