General ResponsibilitiesUnder direction of the school principal, plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for students. Provide an environment conducive to intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development. Supervise students, monitor outcomes, communicate with students, parents, staff, and community. Develop, select, modify instructional plans and materials. Maintain records and follow required procedures. Monitor use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
Essential Functions- Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Regularly meet and instruct assigned classes.
- Create classroom environment that enables student involvement and achievement.
- Provide instructional program for all students.
- Prepare for classes and provide written evidence upon request.
- Guide learning toward curriculum goals, establish clear objectives and communicate them.
- Establish learning objectives aligned with VBCPS curriculum and student needs.
- Use instructional methods, resources, evaluation techniques to motivate and enable learning.
- Take safety precautions to protect students and property.
- Maintain accurate records as required by law and policy.
- Assist administration in implementing student life policies, develop classroom rules, maintain order.
- Be available to students/parents outside instructional day when required.
- Establish respectful relationships with colleagues, students, parents, community.
- Plan and supervise assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers.
- Appraise own effectiveness, demonstrate skills to increase effectiveness, improve competence.
- Participate in school management, share responsibility.
- Attend staff meetings, serve on staff committees.
- Perform other duties as required.
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of VBCPS curriculum, instructional techniques, policies; ability to integrate technology; ability to work effectively with staff, parents, community; strong oral/written communication and human relations skills.
Education and Experience- Required:
Bachelor's Degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college/university. - Must have or be eligible for a teacher license from the Virginia Department of Education.
Use of sensory skills for communication; frequent sitting, walking, standing; ability to lift up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 50 rarely; timely adherence to work schedules; reasonable accommodations may be made.
Special Requirements- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Regular and reliable attendance.

Salary- Entry‑level salary: $55,687.
- Salary based on creditable years; entry‑level at hire.
