Schedule: Days, Nights, Weekends (May Include/Holidays
Pay Rate: $25.34.
Overview:Exhibit and follow the City of Virginia Beach and Department of Parks and Recreation Customer Service Standards. Assist in the planning, implementing, evaluation and supervision of age appropriate lessons and activities for children/youth educational programs that include reading, writing, math, science, games, sports, arts and crafts, enrichment activities and special events. Provide a safe environment, supervision, social emotional learning, and all other aspects of learning for participants with varied ability levels;
report to other assigned locations or programs as needed; supervise part time staff and volunteers.
- Initiates quality program/activity/curriculum ideas geared for preschool aged children daily.
- Skillfully ensures that a creative/diversified program is conducted and age appropriate.
- Accurately maintains, issues, and accounts for equipment and supplies.
- Actively monitors use of playground equipment and outdoor program areas.
- Snacks are issued and accounted for in a responsible manner.
- Provides accurate and timely information on program operation to Recreation Specialist(s) as required.
- Skillfully supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned staff and volunteers.
- Accurately completes incident/accident reports.
- Accurately conveys information to the parents.
- Properly adheres to established policies and procedures.
Must be at least twenty one (21) years old, possess a high school diploma or GED and three (3) years programmatic experience in group care of children/youth that was obtained after the age of sixteen (16); or advance studies such as forty eight (48) semester hours of college credit and six (6) months programmatic experience in group care of children/youth in areas such as: teacher substitute, coach, recreation program leader, scout leader, child care center provider, either in a paid or volunteer capacity or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- At programs providing direct childcare, convictions of any barrier crime set forth in Virginia Code §63.2- 1719 shall be an automatic disqualification for employment in this position.
- Some positions may require a current and valid driver’s license
