Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Senior Transportation Engineer, you will work as a key member of a highway/roadway design team for moderate to large projects. We'll count on you to:

  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of the following roadway/highway design work using local or AASHTO standards: horizontal and vertical alignment, roadway sections, intersection layout and sight distance determination, interchange layout, right of way and construction plans.
  • Along with design, you will be responsible for preparing and overseeing the preparation of the following elements of various sizes of contract plans, specifications and estimates: roadway sections, alignment/right of way plans, site preparation plans, roadway profiles and maintenance of traffic plans.
  • Assist in the management of larger projects and manage smaller projects.
  • Prepare scopes, budgets and schedules.
  • Day to day communication (verbal and written) with the client.
  • Support and advise junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Coordinate with other design disciplines, write reports and technical memos.
  • Coordinate with sub-consultants to keep project on schedule and within budget.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering.
  • PE.
  • 10+ years of transportation engineering design experience required.
  • Experience with local owners (VDOT, DDOT, MDSHA, MDTA or local municipalities).
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, Microstation and Geo Pak and/or Open Roads (or other design software as appropriate).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work with various teams and project management skills desirable.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous work experience with an A/E/C Engineering firm preferred.
  • Experience in the Northern VA, Washington DC and/or Maryland transportation marketplace strongly preferred.
  • Preference given to local candidates.
