Construction Inspector Job Description
Join a dynamic team of 15 Construction Inspectors to support pivotal infrastructure projects, including the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Expansion and the Elbow Road project in Virginia Beach. These projects are part of one of the largest highway construction endeavors in Virginia's history, aimed at improving capacity and travel reliability across the I-64 corridor.
Responsibilities- Perform quality control of VDOT Roadway and the person construction, ensuring contract compliance through field soils, concrete, asphalt, and aggregate testing.
- Conduct materials testing such as nuclear gauge soil and aggregate density, and review concrete deliveries in accordance with VDOT and ACI standards.
- Verify construction of Roadway and Highway materials against drawings, VDOT specifications, special provisions, and contract documents.
- Monitor and observe limited contractual fieldwork, including excavations, storm drain piping installation, drainage facilities, and concrete placement under supervision.
- Advise inspector supervisors and contractor supervisors/foremen of non-conforming field tests.
- Record field measurements, daily production, and test results, and complete daily reports with VDOT materials testing forms.
- Receive and verify materials delivery tickets for compliance.
- Take assignments and direction from Quality Control Lead Management and Senior Inspectors.
- Transportation knowledge and experience.
- Proficiency in soils testing and construction inspection.
- Experience in aggregate testing and asphalt.
- Familiarity with DOT and ACI certified standards.
- Concrete testing and inspection expertise.
- Bridge and roadway construction knowledge.
- OSHA safety standards understanding.
Skills & Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Active ACI Certification in relevant areas such as Soils and Aggregate, Concrete, Erosion, and Sediment, or equivalent experience.
- 0-2+ years of experience in construction or related fields.
- Experience working outdoors and adaptability to work in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to work night shifts with prior notice.
This role requires working outdoors, primarily in field and on-site at the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel or Elbow Road in Virginia Beach. Inspectors must be prepared to work in various weather conditions and may be required to work night shifts, for which a differential rate will be provided. Inspectors will receive a company vehicle, paid gas card, and opportunities for paid certifications and potential pay raises for acquired certifications.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Virginia Beach, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $45.00/hr.
