Leads a team in the performance of aircraft maintenance, inspections, and scheduled/unscheduled maintenance. Processes the technical experience to supervise subordinate mechanics and provide technical guidance on maintenance operations on the airframe being supported. Capable of performing, supervising and inspecting the duties of Mechanic I, II and III. Maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures, structural components and engines of complex to extreme difficulty, maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components, and applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and restores equipment condition and operation.
Applies professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufacturers' manuals. Work typically requires a thoroughly comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, a thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems. Requires detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensionometers, sheet metal brakes and shears, etc.
Must possess the experience and ability to provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers alike, and exhibit excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule.
- Performs requirements in accordance with the procedures established in the PWS.
- Diagnoses and performs corrective actions, disassembles, inspects, evaluates, and accomplishes necessary repairs, lays out work according to technical instructions and technical directives.
- Determines what repairs, modifications, and part replacements are required.
- Verifies work performed by another for which he/she is qualified.
- Acts as Team Lead, Egress Technician, Ordnance CDI / QASO, and liaison with base personnel for additional requirements.
- Coordinates aircraft moves and static display requirements.
- Performs all other required duties as applicable and assigned by supervision.
- Provides organizational level maintenance functions on F/A‑18 E‑Aircraft.
- Supports extensive scheduled and unscheduled maintenance support for assigned F/A‑18 E‑Aircraft.
- Performs inspection, disassembly, repair, servicing, TD compliance, modification, assembly, corrosion control, preservation/de‑preservation.
- Maintains aircraft and aeronautical equipment to continuously support the assigned readiness posture outlined in the activities plan and daily flight schedule.
- Documents maintenance actions via logs, records, forms, and electronic means.
- Troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft egress systems and subsystems.
- Uses hand tools, power tools, machines, and aviation test/measurement and diagnostic equipment.
- Inspects, repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft components/sub components, including rigging of flight controls.
- Reads and interprets manufacturers' maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
- Performs confined space operations to include fuel cell entry.
- Supports Equipment (SE) operation and inspections.
- Requisition s repair parts, materials, and consumable supplies through military supply system.
- Performs general housekeeping and organization of workstation/sl shop maintenance facility.
