Responsibilities- Process collection department payments via Western Union, Converge, ECM (ACH and Credit Card).
- Maintain established performance standards.
- Train and mentor level 1 collectors.
- Assist management with special collection projects.
- Send collection letters and emails with appropriate expiration dates and notices.
- Recommend and prepare workout packets following the approved workout program.
- Manage bankruptcy accounts and understand repo processes, letters, arrangements, fees, payments, and CPI.
- Understand all loan types and perform skip tracing using approved sites.
- Apply FDCPA, collection procedures, and Chartway Credit Union policies and procedures.
- Assist in areas as directed by managers.
- Recommend loss prevention strategies that protect the credit union’s collateral interests.
- Communicate clearly with proper grammar and telephone etiquette in a professional manner.
- Correspond professionally using Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Refer to policy and procedures when applying information and making decisions.
- Adapt quickly to the evolving needs of the Collection Department.
- Perform basic math calculations accurately.
- Adhere to state and federal collection and bankruptcy laws, rules, and regulations; understand collateralization policies, credit rating agencies, and reports.
- Maintain composure with difficult or irate customers.
- Meet or exceed all training requirements for the Level 1 position.
- Attend required Credit Union meetings and complete all training classes.
- Bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not required.
- High school education or equivalent GED.
- Minimum of 2 years of collections experience in consumer loans, mortgages, fraud, small business, or student loans, or equivalent experience with mid-to-high level delinquency accounts.
