Role Overview

The Virginia League for Planned Parenthood is seeking a Part‑Time Registered Nurse to join the team at our Virginia Beach Health Center. Registered Nurses at VLPP provide nursing expertise before, during and after abortion care in compliance with VLPP medical protocols once appropriate training and privileges are obtained. Responsibilities include patient triage, obtaining history and vital signs, abortion education, laboratory testing, ultrasound, and reviewing consent forms.

Additionally, nurses start IVs, perform pre‑sedation assessments, provide recovery room nursing care, and review post‑procedure instructions. Nurses may also support patients calling with concerns after their care through the Clinical Consultation Line on days when direct care is not required.

Education / Certification Requirements
  • Current State of Virginia Registered Nurse license
  • Current BLS certification
Additional Qualifications
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Previous experience in reproductive health care, abortion care, or ambulatory surgical centers preferred
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform all tasks according to VLPP Medical Standards and Guidelines and regulatory requirements (HIPAA, CLIA, OSHA, ASC, etc.)
  • Serve as a Recovery Room and/or IV / Sedation nurse on procedure days; perform ultrasounds, take patient histories, and provide education/consent as needed
  • Complete pre‑sedation patient assessments and prepare patients for procedures, including baseline vitals and IV starts
  • Supervise patient recovery area following procedures, assess stability for discharge, and alert clinicians to any complications; provide discharge instructions to patients
  • Prepare the recovery room by cleaning and stocking supplies and equipment before each clinic session and between patients; monitor inventory and report supply needs to the Health Center Manager
  • Prepare medications for administration per physician’s instructions, including drawing up and labeling lidocaine and/or saline; count/co‑sign narcotics records as necessary
  • Coordinate and/or administer emergency procedures as needed, perform inventory of crash carts, and complete Quality Assurance tasks (e.g., ASC logs, oxygen checks, emergency carts, AED, etc.)
  • Provide support to patients calling with concerns after their care at VLPP through the Clinical Consultation Line as needed
  • Perform accurate and thorough medical record documentation in patient records per MS&GS standards
Schedule

Part‑time, 2 days a week; hours may vary between 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Pay

Starts at $38.89 per hour. Bilingual candidates are eligible for a $1 per hour increase with the completion of a successful third‑party language assessment.
