Patient Care Technician – Cardiac Care Unit
Sentara Health invites applications for the Patient Care Technician role on the Cardiac Care Unit at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. The 12‑bed high‑level intermediate care unit specializes in caring for cardiac and vascular patients before and after procedures and surgeries such as cardiac catheterizations, coronary bypass, carotid, and peripheral vascular surgeries. The unit also provides care for congestive heart failure and arrhythmia patients.
Hours / Shift: Full‑time, day shift (approximately 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.)
Location: Virginia Beach, VA
Responsibilities: Provide patient care under the direct supervision of a professional nurse. Support admissions and discharge processes, and comply with patient safety practices. Observe patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any changes to the nurse. Perform delegated nursing tasks as instructed by the supervising nurse.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- American Health Associate BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.
- Minimum certification options (must have one):
Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, successful completion of Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services (EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic), current enrollment in a clinical program beyond prerequisites with at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT or PT, or recent (within 3 years) experience as a PCT or Nursing Assistant. - One year of prior health‑care experience preferred.
