Overview
This Registered Nurse (RN), Float Pool will support the Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Obstetrics & Gynecology practice. This role provides expert nursing care to women across the reproductive lifespan, with a focus on high-risk pregnancies and complex OB/GYN conditions. Responsibilities include patient education, coordination of care, assistance with in-office procedures, triage, and support during diagnostic testing (e.g. NSTs). This is a part-time, temporary hourly wage position and one of several RN Float pool positions currently open.
Responsibilities- Facilitate patient care in the clinic setting.
- Recognize medical situations specific to Maternal Fetal Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology.
- Correlate the patient’s clinical history with fetal monitoring results and recognize signs and symptoms of maternal/fetal compromise; institute appropriate nursing actions for referral.
- Perform antepartum fetal testing to include non-stress testing and contraction stress testing.
- Determine the technical adequacy of each test and independently assess the appropriateness of each patient’s testing based on established policies and protocols.
- Recognize normal versus abnormal results; prepare accurate, readable reports of the test; contact the physician when necessary.
- Coordinate additional care for antepartum patients to include follow-up testing or procedures, scheduling, physician’s orders, and hospital admissions.
- Perform nurse intakes for new obstetrical patients.
- Contribute to the well-being of patients by serving as a positive role model and demonstrating a professional, caring attitude toward co-workers, patients, and guests.
- Monitor task queues and contact patients with test results.
- Answer the Triage line, record calls and return patient and physician calls in a timely manner.
- PATIENT CONFIDENTIALITY MUST BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES.
- Graduation from NLN Accredited School of Nursing with RN required; BSN preferred.
- Minimum one year clinical experience caring for patients with high-risk obstetric patients and minimum one year experience in fetal monitoring preferred.
- Must have a valid Virginia license as a Professional Registered Nurse.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with the public, partners, customers, and co-workers; while working cooperatively and effectively with others to achieve common goals.
- Ability to manage time and resources to ensure assignments are completed accurately and deadlines are met. Meets attendance/punctuality requirements.
- Ability to adapt to changing work environments, work priorities, and organizational needs with enthusiasm and energy. Takes independent action to address and resolve problems.
- Ability to express ideas effectively and demonstrate sound judgment with regard to decision-making.
- Ability to deal with others in a direct, honest manner and comply with all EVMS/EVMS Medical Group policies and procedures.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and statistical analysis.
