Sentara Health is seeking to hire a qualified individual to join our team as a Hospital Emergency Dispatcher. This is an on‑site, full‑time night shift position located in Harrisonburg, VA and Virginia Beach, VA.

Locations:
Rockingham Atrium – Harrisonburg, VA;
Sentara Independence – Virginia Beach, VA

Shift: 7:30 PM – 6:00 AM with rotating weekends. Must work 3 holidays.

Sentara Communications Assistants play a critical role in facilitating all emergent and non‑emergent communication both externally and internally. Our Centralized Hospital Communications Center serves 12 hospitals and 4 free‑standing emergency departments. Emergency call facilitation includes receiving, activating, and tracking complex emergency alerts such as Security, Facility, and Medical Alerts. In addition to overhead announcements, you will activate paging groups, contact on‑call providers and teams, coordinate and track responses from physicians, specialized nursing teams, air and ground transport, and others.

High‑severity emergencies may involve activating the Sentara Emergency Notification system for mass notifications. Internal call facilitation involves utilizing complex on‑call schedules with escalations and facilitating nurse‑to‑physician and physician‑to‑physician communication for emergent consultations. You will also assist with training new employees as needed and perform additional duties as assigned. Previous healthcare and high‑volume multi‑line phone office experience is preferred, along with an understanding of medical terminology.

  Two years in customer service, two years in a call center, experience in emergency management and/or 911 emergency dispatch
• Knowledge:
  Understanding of medical terminology preferred

Base pay ranges from $16.92 to $25.38 per hour. Additional compensation may be available for shift differentials, standby/on‑call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.

Sentara Independence provides quality outpatient services, including an ambulance‑accessible emergency room staffed by board‑certified physicians.
