A $5,000 hiring bonus is being offered for this position. Hiring bonuses shall only be for new hires of original employment or reemployment as defined in Human Resources Policy No. 5.0.
• $1,250 will be awarded in the first paycheck.
• $1,750 will be awarded upon completion of the six (6) month interim performance evaluation with an overall rating of "Meets Expectations".
• $2,000 will be awarded upon completion of the employee's one (1) year probationary period and a performance evaluation with an overall rating of "Meets Expectations".
The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking to hire a Registered Nurse who has experience working with adults who have substance use and mental health disorders for the SUD Outpatient programs at Pathways.
Responsibilities:
- Perform assessments, interventions, and consultation duties in a substance abuse setting.
- Provide health literacy information within psycho educational group to include information about TB, HIV, HepC and other medical conditions that are appropriate.
- Share information about the importance of medication compliance, sleep health and general well being.
- Conduct pregnancy tests on females entering the program as needed.
- Conduct Urine Drug Screens at admission and randomly throughout the program.
- Conduct breathalyzers on individual as appropriate.
- Utilize and implement medical and nursing protocols.
- Coordinate the scheduling of psychiatric evaluations as needed and to occur within three days of the identified need.
- Perform medical assessments during medical emergencies.
- Manage medical and mental health crises.
- Perform venipuncture and other laboratory collection procedures as ordered.
- Collaborate with the clinical team to provide comprehensive services.
- Complete medical discharge planning with all individuals prior to discharge (link with outside medical providers, provide resource information, etc.).

- Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS:
Requires current and valid licensure as a Registered Nurse by the State of Virginia or as a part of the Compact Designation (Multi-State Privileges) and 2 or more years Registered Nurse experience to be specified by the hiring department. Current CPR certification. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina drivers license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV drivers license eligibility requirements.
Special Requirements :
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. This position may require that incumbents to wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, safety footwear, hard hats, safety eyewear, gloves, or other safety attire and equipment in designated areas of risk.
Specific requirements will be determined and communicated by the employees supervisor based on position assignments.
