Residential Maintenance Technician – Level I

Join Balfour Beatty Communities as a Residential Maintenance Technician – Level I. In this role you will maintain the physical condition of the community, diagnosing and repairing maintenance issues, and ensuring resident service requests are completed promptly.

The Role

The Maintenance Technician is integral to this objective.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide maintenance support for general maintenance and orderliness of property HVA, mechanical, electrical, utilities and lighting systems, including inspections and repairs.
  • Ensure the execution of all company safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Deliver the highest level of resident satisfaction through responsive, consistent, positive, and professional interactions.
  • Work a rotating on‑call schedule to provide 24/7 maintenance coverage.
Who We're Looking For
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1–3 years of maintenance experience.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Basic understanding of at least one of the following disciplines: electrical, plumbing, carpentry.
  • Ability to make repairs to resident homes to company standards within time limits.
  • Ability to learn quickly.
  • Certifications relevant to the region (e.g., EPA 608, boiler, plumbing, electrical, appliance repair) obtained within 9 months of employment or promotion.
  • Required training courses completed within one year of hire or promotion.
  • Valid, state‑issued driver’s license with a safe driving record.
Typical Physical Demands

Regularly use hands to manipulate tools, machinery, equipment and supplies; frequently stand, reach, climb ladders, balance, and stoop. Lift and move equipment and supplies up to 50–75 lbs.

Typical Work Conditions

Work is performed inside and outside a maintenance/machinery environment and residential properties. Employees frequently interact directly with residents, maintenance staff, and community staff during the workday.
