Overview

Aircraft Worker, Egress – Amentum. The role supports U.S. Navy Aviation maintenance operations at NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach, VA (VFA-106). The Aircraft Worker makes repairs to aircraft following orders, assists in troubleshooting malfunctions in aircraft structures, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.

The worker repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft structures and functional components using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment. They read and interpret maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine repair or replacement methods. The role includes inspections, testing, and routine maintenance tasks, and may involve line station work or detachments. Some positions may require FAA licensing.

The incumbent may be required to pass a U.S. Government background security check and favorable fingerprints in EQIP. A CAC card may be required. Unfavorable background checks may affect eligibility for clearance.

Shift work is required; detachments are possible. US citizenship is required due to the nature of the work.

Responsibilities
  • Perform repairs to aircraft structures and components as directed by higher-grade technicians.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions in structural, propulsion, electrical, and associated systems.
  • Read and interpret maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, and other specifications.
  • Conduct preflight, through-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections; service aircraft as needed.
  • Inspect engines and components, replace worn parts, reassemble and install engine systems, and verify repairs.
  • Assist with jacking, towing, and movement of aircraft; document work in maintenance records.
  • Possess or obtain required certifications and licenses as appropriate (e.g., FAA licensing may be required).
  • Maintain safe working conditions and comply with security requirements.
Minimum Requirements
  • Must have completed Navy Aviation Structural Mechanic "E" (Safety Equipment) AME “A” School.
  • High school graduate or equivalent, with a minimum of five (3) years actual and recent organizational level F/A-18 aircraft experience, and 3 years F/A-18 E/F/G O-level aircraft system maintenance experience with U.S. Navy 8341 NEC (verified by DD-214).
  • Knowledge and use of special tools/equipment required to perform assigned maintenance tasks.
  • Must be physically able to perform all assigned duties.
  • Must have a valid Virginia or North Carolina driver’s license (North Carolina residents).
  • Work is performed outdoors under various weather conditions with exposure to noise and exhaust fumes.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical publications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Able to meet physical requirements and pass medical examinations as required.
  • Ability to stand, climb, bend, and stoop; shift work and detachments may be required.
  • Must be able to obtain an approved status from the Contractor Verification System and obtain a Security Clearance for Public Trust.
  • U.S. Citizenship required due to the nature of the work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior Ordnance Certification at QA/SO or Team Leader level.
  • Ramp Stamp (restricted/unrestricted).
  • Experience with A/S32A-45 Tow Tractor and related equipment; power carts and associated tools.
