Position: Recreation Assistant (Marina)

Summary

Performs a variety of duties in support of the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Community Recreation program, including special events, recreation information/resources, command events, visiting ships or fleet support, community events, trips, tours, outings, party and picnic rentals, resale tickets, recreational green space management, bowling, Library, Liberty, grab‑n‑go, movies, and outdoor recreation. This position is located at the Cove Marina.

Duties
  • Provide customer service and support for Community Recreation programs and activities, including checking patron eligibility and providing information about offerings.
  • Open and close facilities, order and restock supplies, and prepare snack bar menu items.
  • Assist in day‑to‑day administration of multiple programs, submit event after‑action reports, collect patronage data, and enter program data.
  • Offer recreation experiences such as day and weekend trips and administer workshops, clinics, and events in leisure and recreation skill areas (camping, cycling, sailing, backpacking, canoeing, snow skiing, hiking, water sports).
  • Conduct inventory, maintain inventory controls, and ensure proper accountability of program equipment and resources.
  • Ensure all rental or check‑out forms are completed, reservation procedures followed, and notify supervisors of any damage or loss.
  • Check equipment and resources in and out, collect applicable rental fees, inventory items, and complete inspections upon return.
  • Process customer Internet registrations (Net Near You), initial log‑ins, and event registrations.
  • Account for accuracy of daily sales transactions, complete a Daily Activity Report (DAR) at shift end, and collect fees using POS and computer programs.
  • Perform inventory of equipment, retail goods, supplies, and cash‑value items.
  • Provide support for event set‑up and break‑down.
  • Initiate and follow up on maintenance trouble calls to resolve equipment/facility issues.
  • Adhere to NAVMED P‑5010 sanitation requirements.
  • Research and provide referrals for recreational opportunities on and off base.
  • Assist in creating professional proposals, executing agreements, and following up.
  • Perform community outreach and develop contacts.
  • Develop working partnerships with on‑base and off‑base organizations (park districts, forests, clubs, special interest groups).
  • Promote use of recreational e‑reading resources available through the online MWR Library Program.
  • Promote MWR facilities and events through base outreach opportunities.
  • Assist in updating electronic and multimedia support tools.
  • Perform entertainment and promotion scheduling.
  • Assist in planning, coordinating, publicizing, marketing, and execution of MWR programs and special events.
  • Actively support the command statement on adherence to EEO principles and policies.
  • Assist with recruitment, training, and scheduling of Community Recreation staff.
  • Handle administrative duties using computer software that tracks resource inventories and program metrics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, as they pertain to the responsibilities of this position.
Requirements
  • Must pass all applicable records and background check.
  • Must successfully pass the E‑Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • Irregular working hours may be required to include early shift, late shift, evenings, weekends, and holidays when the need arises.
  • May have to obtain and maintain the following certification within 90 days of hire:
    Emergency First Responder or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Food Handlers and/or C.A.R.E (Controlling Alcohol Risks Effectively).
