Adult Education Teacher (Part-Time) – Patrick & Henry Community College

Under the direction of the Director of Community Learning and located onsite at Patrick & Henry Community College (P&HCC), the Part‑Time Adult Education Teacher provides reading, writing, social studies, math, and science instruction to students 18+ who are not enrolled in school (K‑12). The teacher creates a conducive learning environment, monitors student outcomes, communicates effectively, develops instructional plans, maintains records, and ensures proper use of equipment and materials.
EssentialFunctions
- Teach Adult Basic Education, English as a Second Language, Pre‑GED, and GED courses using instructional methods tailored to adult learners.
- Plan lessons based on the learning needs of culturally diverse, multi‑skill‑level students to prepare them for GED tests or to enhance basic education skills.
- Implement a variety of instructional delivery methods, including group or individualized instruction and computer programs.
- Administer TABE tests to determine individual progress.
- Maintain student registration, attendance, and assessment records and submit timely data for NRS input.
- Integrate computer‑aided instruction as appropriate.
- Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops as required.
- Collaborate with colleagues and serve as a member of the adult education instructional team.
- Perform other duties as required.
• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Teaching experience and a valid VA teaching license with an endorsement in adult education preferred.
Physical RequirementsSedentary work; requires up to 10–20 pounds of force occasionally, frequently, or constantly to move objects; involves fine manipulation, vocal communication, visual acuity, and normal hearing. Reasonable accommodations may be provided.
