General Statement of Duties

This is a 12-month dual enrollment English teacher assignment that also supports the development of English language skills for high school students enrolled in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. The assignment involves close collaboration with CTE instructors to scaffold both content and language instruction across technical subjects. A key aspect of the role is to develop and adapt instructional materials to support English as a Second Language (ESL) students.

Additionally, the assignment includes support for CTE summer programming, such as Career Camps and Summer Building Trades, during the months of June and July.

This is a 260-day, 12-month assignment.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and deliver instruction to meet individual and group learning needs utilizing state guidelines and division curriculum.
  • Regularly exhibit considerable knowledge of learning theory and best practices.
  • Consistently act in the best interests of students and model appropriate behavior in all professional interactions.
  • Plans daily instructional activities for secondary students, demonstrating knowledge of subject matter and using state Standards of Learning and the district curriculum.
  • Uses current school and division data to plan instruction.
  • Develops formative and summative tests, using multiple tools to assess student learning on an ongoing basis, and alters instruction to meet group and individual needs.
  • Maintains order within the classroom and school with proactive classroom management and a well-organized learning environment.
  • Maintains records of student performance and attendance, and communicates this effectively with students and their parents.
  • Selects, requisitions, and uses a variety of instructional materials to stimulate learning and meet the needs of all students.
  • Communicates and coordinates instruction with other staff (special ed, gifted, remediation staff, etc.) relative to student learning.
  • Stays abreast of current educational trends and best practices as these relate to classroom instruction and effective schools.
  • Maintains professional manner when interacting with students, parents, patrons, community agencies, and colleagues.
  • Incorporates and models appropriate use of technology to support instruction and student learning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties & Physical Demands

The physical demands of this assignment include the ability to sit and stand for extended periods and the ability to lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A minimum valid teaching license with an English endorsement is required.
  • Applicants with a bachelor’s degree, relevant college coursework, and passing Praxis test scores will be considered.
  • Preference will be given to applicants eligible to teach dual enrollment English courses; dual enrollment eligibility requires a master’s degree and a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the specified content.
  • Candidates with a background in supporting English as a Second Language learners (ESL) are encouraged to apply.
Salary

Minimum annual starting salary*:

  • $72,060.37 (Bachelor’s)
  • $75,519.45 (Master’s)

The actual salary for this assignment will be prorated based on the start date, which will be determined by the employee’s first day in the role.
