Provost & Chief Academic Officer
This position is the University’s Chief Academic Officer, reporting directly to the President and serving as Dean of the Faculty.
Primary PurposeThe provost provides leadership to faculty and academic staff, ensures consistent quality of curricula and programs, serves as ex‑officio member of all academic committees, represents the University’s academic programs to constituent groups, and acts as chief academic planning officer. The provost is a member of the Executive Leadership Team and attends all Board of Trustees meetings.
Essential Functions- Serve as chief administrative officer for the academic services of the University:
- Supervise all personnel in the Office of Academic Affairs.
- Plan and preside over regular meetings of the Academic Council, screen proposals, and prepare meeting agendas.
- Schedule meetings for all academic committees and determine membership in consultation with faculty officers.
- Serve on the Executive Leadership Team and other academic committees as needed.
- Make recommendations to the President on faculty employment, retention, appointments, and program planning.
- Plan and execute annual programs such as the Faculty Workshop, Honors Day, Adjunct Faculty Training, and Commencement.
- Act as liaison to the Faculty and Curriculum Committee of the Board of Trustees.
- Revise and update the Faculty Handbook biennially in consultation with relevant bodies.
- Develop, coordinate, and supervise the work of the academic divisions, the Library, and the Registrar’s Office.
- Study unit needs, advise on budget apportionment, and coordinate the search process for new faculty.
- Promote communication among divisions and lead curriculum planning and review based on data analysis.
- Assess student needs, coordinate curriculum revision, and engage faculty in continuous improvement.
- Serve as Dean of the faculty in matters of faculty development and evaluation.
- Promote faculty growth, plan in‑service training, encourage professional organization participation, and oversee research and scholarship.
- Evaluate faculty performance, review syllabi and student evaluations, and maintain documentation of faculty loads and productivity.
- Compile and publish the University Catalog.
- Oversee students’ academic processes, maintain learning resources, monitor grades, and direct students to academic support services.
- Oversee institutional effectiveness and research functions, coordinating with the Directors of Institutional Effectiveness and Research.
- Coordinate reports related to the academic community for federal and state agencies and accrediting bodies.
- Perform other duties assigned by the President.
- Teach and engage in continuous scholarly activity as a professional model for faculty.
- Integrate the academic program with the University’s co‑curricular areas to promote unity of vision and purpose.
The provost position is not physically demanding; everyday responsibilities should not pose a risk of accidental injury.

Qualifications- Commitment to the Christian mission of the University and its vision, mission, and values.
- Earned doctorate.
- Significant teaching and administrative experience, including:
- Demonstrated achievement in undergraduate teaching.
- Eligibility for appointment as a professor in a University department.
- Appropriate scholarship and publications.
- Understanding of traditional and online programs and best practices in online learning platforms.
- Budget management skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with administrators, faculty, students, and other stakeholders.
- Appreciation for shared academic governance.
