About the roleWe’re looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our innovative design team in Pittsburgh, PA
. In this role, you’ll do more than design systems—you’ll help create environments that inspire learning, advance science, and elevate corporate spaces.
- Lead mechanical engineering aspects of complex building design projects—both new construction and renovations—ensuring compliance with codes, standards, and client specifications.
- Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and clients to develop innovative, cost‑effective solutions that meet project goals.
- Perform detailed HVAC engineering calculations and analyses to support design decisions and optimize system performance.
- Prepare and review technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and reports, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering professional growth and knowledge sharing.
- Engage directly with clients to understand requirements, present engineering solutions, and maintain strong relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
- Conduct site assessments and field investigations to validate design assumptions and resolve issues.
- Support project scheduling, budgeting, and resource planning, ensuring timely and efficient delivery.
- Stay current with emerging HVAC technologies, sustainability practices, and industry best standards to bring innovative ideas to clients.
- Represent Jacobs in client meetings, presentations, and local market events, positioning the firm as a trusted advisor and partner.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Pennsylvania
- 12+ years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering roles
- Proven expertise in our key market sectors Higher Education, Science & Research, and Corporate Commercial
- Advanced proficiency in HVAC design software and tools, including AutoCAD, Revit, Trane TRACE 3D Plus, Carrier HAP, and equipment selection programs for chillers, air handling units, and other mechanical systems
- Strong knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards (ASME, ASHRAE, etc.)
- Exceptional problem‑solving and analytical skills
- Demonstrated project management capabilities, with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
- Business ties and network connections to the Pittsburgh community
- Willingness to travel for work in the region and to collaborate with Philadelphia and other Jacobs offices
- Engagement in professional networks
