The role is suited for an engineer with strong concept-level design, schematics, and construction drawings skills. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit with experience in electrical power systems design for mission-critical environments is preferred. You will have a direct impact on the design of prototypical Data Center sites, provide technical design guidance and vendor oversight, solve large-scale implementation issues, and build a strong understanding of site design and program requirements.

The successful candidate will develop and implement design strategies to expand the firm’s expertise, footprint, and profitability in Critical Facilities and Digital Infrastructure. The role involves initial design specifications and prototypes of critical power systems for new data centers and expansions, with expertise in Electrical Power Systems / Electrical Power Distribution System design and installation. Experience with electrical equipment design including generators, UPS, and electrical switch gear is essential.

You will help lead the design team and collaborate with all trades and stakeholders on projects.

Responsibilities
  • Manage projects, create designs and plans, gather specifications, and execute assignments in multidisciplinary electrical engineering design for data center facility projects (enterprise data centers, colocation providers, hyperscale companies).
  • Create conceptual designs gathered from client meetings.
  • Create prototypes that inform schematics used for RFPs/RFIs.
  • Establish project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards within company guidelines.
  • Represent the company in project meetings.
  • Collaborate with design staff and oversee full-cycle electrical design activities.
  • Work with the Project Management Team to produce construction documents, develop/edit project specifications, and lead construction administration.
  • Lead design teams and manage projects of complex scope.
  • Perform intermediate to advanced electrical design tasks, including development of distribution systems, infrastructure layouts, and equipment sizing.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and Revit to prepare drawings.
  • Review or prepare book or sheet specifications for electrical power systems.
  • Develop and review sequences of operations.
  • Support proposal development including project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Manage project design teams, forecast resources, and coordinate with stakeholders.
  • Identify potential scope changes and aid in cost and schedule deviation control.
  • Support design clients and build long-term client relationships.
  • Survey existing building conditions, perform field observations, and prepare technical reports and commissioning support.
  • Represent Operations in startup, testing, factory witness testing, commissioning, and turnover.
  • Prepare project design and construction documents and progress reports for stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Professional Engineer or candidate (FE/EIT) a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical power systems design for data centers or mission-critical facilities.
  • Experience with engineering consulting/A/E/MEP environments is preferred.
  • Experience with hyperscale/colocation/enterprise/complex data center design and mission-critical facilities.
  • Proficiency with Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP; BIM experience is a plus.
  • Extensive experience with electrical power systems and equipment (UPS, generators, batteries, switch gear, PDU, backup power, medium/high voltage).
  • Keen knowledge of NEC, life safety, and energy conservation codes.
  • Site asset acquisition experience a plus (viability of converting existing buildings/brownfield to data centers).
  • Experience creating concept-level designs, reviewing drawings, and schematics; field observations during construction.
  • Understanding of building codes, permitting, local regulations, and standards.
  • Knowledge of mission-critical equipment and systems, design process, pre-construction requirements, and construction process.
  • Ability to evaluate design and constructability of site design by third-party consultants; strong communication skills with all levels of stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects with internal staff, external consultants, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Self-starter, self-motivated, strong problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Active participant in local data center organizations (7x24, AFCOM, DCD, Uptime Institute, DICE Bisnow, etc.).
