The Town of Rocky Mount is currently taking applications for the position of Utility Service Technician. Come join our staff at the Public Works department where their work has a clear and productive impact on the Town and its citizens.

• Reading water meters, establishing water services, and logging current data.
• Connecting and disconnecting water services.
• Conducting rereads of meters and checking problematic high/low usage to determine issues.
• Performing maintenance on water and wastewater lines, streets, and grounds maintenance.
• Other duties assigned by Public Works as necessary.

• Ability to perform general mathematical calculations.
• Strong communication skills with the public/customers and internal staff.
• Knowledge of water meter reading methods and techniques.
• Experience in plumbing methods or certification (preferred).
• Operating light and heavy equipment (preferred).
• Commercial driver's license required at time of hiring or obtained within six months of employment.

Salary commensurate with experience. Excellent fringe benefits including full coverage of health, dental and vision for employee only and family coverage costing $500 per month. Eligible for employer contribution to a flexible spending account of up to $600. Paid time off accruals starting at 6.5 hours every two weeks. Participation in the Virginia Retirement System. Life insurance and short‑term disability paid for by employer.
