Paramedic – BMH/Full Time Nights

Centra Health – Bedford, VA

The Paramedic, under the direction of the Operational Medical Director, performs care appropriate to the patient population served and meets routine and life‑threatening patient care needs. The Paramedic may be required to respond under routine or emergency conditions; assess the scene for hazards; triage multiple patients, especially in mass casualty situations; provide assessment, stabilization and treatment of life‑threatening conditions utilizing skills within the Paramedic scope of practice and within the protocols set forth by the Operational Medical Director.

The Paramedic will also provide routine, non‑emergent care and transportation to patients as needed by ambulance.

• Assess nature and extent of illness/ injury to establish and prioritize medical care.
• Provide appropriate patient care interventions; basic life support, IV insertion, fluid and medication administration, advanced airway techniques, cardiac rhythm interpretations and monitoring, pacing and defibrillation.
• Provide emergent care, routine and non‑emergent care, and transportation to patients as needed by ambulance.
• Gather and submit appropriate patient data necessary for continued treatment.
• Demonstrate ability to prioritize multiple tasks to accomplish work assignments in a timely manner.
• Complete documentation and submit in a timely manner.
• Interact and communicate information and ideas to all levels of personnel within the organization.
• Recognize conflicts with personnel, patients, and other customers and appropriately intervene.
• Other duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Virginia Paramedic or EMT-Intermediate certification required.
• American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or recognized equivalent required for hire. AHA ACLS is required within 6 months of hire.
• American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or recognized equivalent required for hire. AHA PALS is required within 6 months of hire.
• American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR (BLS) required or recognized equivalent required for hire. AHA BLS is required within 6 months of hire.
• VAVRS or VDFP EVOC required.
• Hazardous Materials Awareness required within the first year of employment.
• FEMA IS 100, 200, and 700.

• Associate degree in healthcare or related field.
• Previous pre‑hospital EMS or transport experience.
• National registry paramedic.

Travel is expected to be between 10% and 25% of the time.
