Position SummaryBath Community Hospital is a patient-focused small hospital in rural Virginia that offers excellent working conditions, a supportive team environment, and opportunities for professional development. The Emergency Room (ER) Technician / EMS Transport Technician works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and performs a variety of clinical, clerical, and patient transport duties to support safe and efficient operations within the Emergency Department and EMS services.
This role requires the ability to provide age-appropriate, patient-centered care according to departmental policies and procedures. In addition to supporting ER operations, this position may respond to EMS calls, provides pre-hospital care within EMT scope, and safely transports non-ambulatory patients between facilities.
- Maintain a clean, safe, orderly, and functional patient care environment compliant with infection control and safety standards.
- Assist with patient admissions and participate in triage activities as assigned.
- Accurately document admission assessments and supporting data.
- Register patients, obtain signed consents, verify demographic information, and scan required documents (, insurance, etc.).
- Observe, document, and promptly report changes in patient condition or behavior to the Registered Nurse.
- Assist with patient care tasks within EMT scope and departmental policy (vital signs, splinting, EKG setup, etc.).
- Support unit nurses and clerical staff in ensuring smooth Emergency Department operations.
- Maintain readiness of ER rooms and stretchers, including cleaning and restocking.
- Assist with maintaining and ordering of ER supplies.
- Respond to EMS calls in accordance with BCH EMS protocols and EMT scope of practice.
- Administer pre-hospital care following established guidelines and standing orders.
- Safely transport non-ambulatory patients to and from medical facilities, ensuring proper use of equipment and adherence to transport safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all EMS calls, assessments, treatments, and transports.
- Operate EMS vehicles safely and responsibly, following EVOC standards and BCH policies.
- Maintain readiness of EMS equipment, stretchers, and vehicles, including cleanliness, restocking, and routine checks.
- Current Virginia Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification or higher
- Current EVOC certification
- Current BLS certification
- Minimum age: 21
- Clean driving record (DMV record required)
- Previous Emergency Room, EMS, or patient transport experience
- ACLS and PALS certifications
Full-Time
Job HoursMostly evenings, with occasional day or night shifts.
