What You’ll Get To DoAs a Software/Database Developer working for the CBP ITI
2.1 program, you will have a fast moving, challenging, and a highly rewarding position keeping the infrastructure running that helps CBP keep our borders safe on all travel entry and exit modalities. These modalities include air, land, and sea for entry and exit at various ports of entry.
The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, fast-learning, and organized and have solid software development knowledge, coding experience, and the ability to perform complex SQL Server database related assignments essential to the production and development of Database Management Systems (DBMS) applications. They will apply knowledge and experience with database technologies, development methodologies, and perform database programming and support (includes maintenance of database dictionaries, overall monitoring of standards and procedures, file design and storage, and integration of systems of database design).
The role of this mid-level position will be supporting the various border security efforts of CBP and may include biometric technologies such as facial recognition, RFID enabled documents, license plate reading technologies, data analytics, IoT, and other border security technologies. Basic responsibilities include:
- Research, design, and implement development solutions.
- Gather and organize user requirements, forming a detailed backlog.
- Develop, test, and deploy analytic applications, incorporating user feedback.
- Perform data analysis and database design/development.
- Ensure database security, integrity, and performance.
- Support software release activities and Agile development practices.
- Collaborate with a diverse, geographically separated team.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to pass CBP background investigation, criteria includes, but not limited to:
- 3-year check for felony convictions
- 1-year check for illegal drug use
- 1-year check for misconduct such as theft or fraud
- Applicable combination of education and experience:
- Software Database Developer T3 - College degree (B.S.) in relevant area of study and five (5) years or more experience in incremental software development projects
- Senior Software Database Developer T4 - College degree (B.S.) in relevant area of study and seven (7) years or more experience in incremental software development projects
- Strong coding skills in C#, .NET, Angular, Java, Python, etc.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Coding in C#, .NET, Angular, Java, Python, Ruby, etc.
- Utilizing SQL Server
- Front or back end developer
- CSS3, Less, HTML, JavaScript, and jQuery
- Integration with hardware devices and vendor SDKs
- Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or above
- Basic understanding of Microsoft SQL configuration
- SQL Server and Oracle RDBMS (version 12c or higher) running on Linux and Windows Server environments
