Performs general duty uniform patrol/law enforcement work to protect lives, property, and the rights of the public for the County Sheriff's Office. Answers complaint calls, patrols the County in an official vehicle, motorcycle, bicycle, or on foot to deter crime and apprehend violators or suspects, and investigates and secures crime scenes. Responsibilities also include serving legal papers and testifying in court.

Responsibilities- Perform general duty uniform patrol/law enforcement work.
- Answer complaint calls.
- Patrol the County in an official vehicle, motorcycle, bicycle, or on foot to deter crime.
- Apprehend violators or suspects.
- Investigate and secure crime scenes.
- Serve legal papers and testify in court.
- High school graduate or equivalent; preferred experience in law enforcement as a deputy sheriff, police officer, or security guard, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must meet established medical requirements.
- United States citizen.
- At least 21 years of age.
- Must pass the Basic Law Enforcement Academy program within one year of employment.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with a good driving record.
- Annual qualification on the Sheriff’s Office Firearms Qualification Course.
- Maintain Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Basic Law Enforcement Certification.
- Agree to refrain from use of tobacco products off and on duty.
Must be physically capable of operating various machinery and equipment, operating a motor vehicle, and handling firearms. Physical tasks include gripping, pushing, pulling, carrying a duty belt, weapons, and evidence equipment, lifting or carrying tires or debris, and the ability to run and scale walls or stairs during foot pursuit.
