AHI, a member of the Baillie Group, is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Edger Operator to join our team at our Amissville, VA location. The Edger Operator is responsible for operating the edger machine to trim rough-cut lumber into specific widths, maximizing yield and ensuring product quality. This role is critical to the efficiency and accuracy of our milling process and requires a strong understanding of hardwood characteristics and lumber grading.

  • Operate the edger machine to trim boards to correct width and optimize lumber yield.
  • Inspect rough-cut lumber for defects and make decisions on trimming based on wood quality and customer specifications.
  • Adjust machine settings for thickness, width, and length based on job requirements.
  • Monitor machine operation to ensure smooth processing and identify mechanical issues early.
  • Stack and sort finished lumber according to grade, size, and species.
  • Communicate with sawyers, graders, and other mill personnel to maintain production flow.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of the edger and surrounding work area.
  • Follow all safety procedures and company policies.

Edger Operator

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in a lumber mill or manufacturing setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with hardwood species, lumber grades, and milling terminology.
  • Ability to read a tape measure and make accurate measurements.
  • Mechanical aptitude and basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a physically demanding environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
