Structural Steel Fitter

Job Description We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Fitter to join our team in La Crosse, VA. This position involves reading blueprints, fitting structural steel components, and tack welding assemblies in preparation for final welding.

Day 1 Expectations Must pass a 3/8  flat weld test, vertical tack test, and single-bead vertical test.

Proficient in reading blueprints, using a tape measure, and understanding decimals.

Experience fitting structural steel, including beams, joists, webbing, connection plates, stiffeners, and supporting brackets.

Ability to accurately fit and tack weld components according to blueprint specifications.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities Read blueprints to measure, fit, and assemble structural steel components.

Fit beams using webbing, connection plates, flanges, and fitting clips.

Tack weld assemblies to prepare them for final welding.

Perform occasional flat-position MIG welding using .045 wire at 24–30 amps and 400–500 wire feed speed.

Ensure accurate measurements, proper alignment, and high-quality fit-ups.

Maintain quality and production standards across various structural steel projects.

Qualifications

Previous structural steel fitting experience required.

Strong blueprint reading and measuring skills.

Experience with MIG welding and tack welding.

Ability to work independently and maintain precise fit-up tolerances.

Strong attention to detail and workmanship.
